Project Description
This residential project took place in the beautiful coastal town of Wells, Maine, where the homeowner had recently upgraded their covered front entrance with new woodwork. The structure was charming and well-builtโbut unfinished. Thatโs where we came in.
They needed a professional-grade exterior stain to protect their investment and give their homeโs entrance the final touch it deserved. CYR Painting Service was hired to provide a full exterior staining service, bringing out the natural beauty of the wood while protecting it from the regionโs tough weather.
Though the area wasnโt massive, it was a high-visibility space that required precision, care, and product knowledge. In just four days, we delivered a clean, even, and long-lasting finishโpriced fairly for a high-quality result and stress-free client experience.
Background/Story:
The homeowner had poured love and energy into revamping their homeโs entrance. With fresh wood columns, railings, and trim in place, it finally looked the way they imaginedโexcept for one thing: the wood was bare.
Within weeks, weather had already taken a toll. Rain left marks. UV rays dulled the color. And with the entrance so exposed, they knew waiting any longer could ruin their investment. They needed helpโand fast.
They reached out to CYR Painting Service after hearing good things from neighbors. On our first visit, we could see exactly what they were concerned about. They werenโt just looking for stainโthey were looking for the right product, the right process, and a partner they could trust.
We listened, shared stain samples, walked through color options, and helped them visualize how everything would come together. That personal touch made all the difference. They felt seen, heard, and completely confident moving forward.
Scope of Services
- Initial Walkthrough & Color Consultation: Met with the homeowner at their Wells, Maine residence to assess the newly built covered entranceway. Discussed the desired look and function of the finish, confirmed wood species and condition, and provided stain color samples. Worked together to select a tone that would enhance the natural grain while offering weather protection suited to coastal exposure.
- Surface Preparation: Lightly cleaned the entire entrance area to remove dust, pollen, and early signs of weathering. Spot-sanded rough areas and high-traffic zones to ensure a smooth, absorbent surface ready for staining. Protected adjacent siding, stonework, and pavers with painterโs tape and drop cloths.
- Exterior Staining โ Posts, Ceiling & Trim: Applied two coats of Sherwin-Williams Deckscapes Translucent Stain in Canyon Brown by hand with brush techniques. This allowed for precise control over tone depth and full grain visibility. Focused on achieving even coverage across all vertical and overhead surfaces including posts, ceilings, and accent trim.
- Stair & Railing Staining: Carefully stained all stair treads, risers, and railings to match the entrance woodwork. Maintained consistent application and color flow for a unified, finished appearance that complemented the homeโs entry path.
- Final Walkthrough & Care Guidance: Completed a full inspection with the homeowner, addressing any minor touch-ups. Reviewed stain performance expectations, explained maintenance best practices, and left them with care tips to extend the life and beauty of their newly protected entranceway.
